Weather Update: PMD warns of heavy rain in Karachi starting tonight

In its latest weather update, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted another period of heavy rain in Karachi starting this evening. According to the press release, the Met Office advised that a persistent low pressure area (LPA) over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjacent Gulf of Kutch has intensified into a low pressure area (LPA). intense low pressure) with a maximum wind speed of 50-55. km/hour.

The system is located around Latitude 21.8N and Longitude 69.0E, at a distance of about 400 km southeast of Karachi and 340 km from Thatta. This weather system is likely to move northwest over the next 36 to 48 hours and move west towards the coast of Oman.

Under the influence of this weather system, there might be another period of heavy rains in Karachi and other parts of Sindh starting this evening (July 17, 2022).

The press release added that widespread thunderstorms/rain showers with scattered heavy/very heavy falls, at times extremely heavy, are likely in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nosheroferoze , Tando Muhammad Khan (TMK), Tando Allayar (TAY), Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur & Ghotki districts of Sindh from today to July 18 and Lasbella, Uthal, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Jiwani , Turbat, Awaran & Zones Ketch from July 17 to 18, 2022.

The weather forecast could cause sea conditions to remain very choppy for the next three days and has warned fishermen in Sindh and Balochistan not to venture out on the high seas from today until July 18, 2022. During During this time, very heavy/extremely heavy rain could generate urban flooding in Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, TM Khan Tando Allayar, Lasbela, Sonmiani, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Turbat & Jiwani.

PMD Tropical Cyclone Warning Center, Karachi is closely monitoring the system and updates will be released accordingly.
