Weather Update: Deep low over Chhattisgarh, adjoining MP, UP weakening; heavy rains continue

Weather update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday that a deep depression over northwest Chhattisgarh, adjoining Madhya Pradesh and southeast Uttar Pradesh has weakened into a depression.

The IMD said the depression will continue to track west-northwestward across northern Madhya Pradesh and weaken into a well-marked low pressure area over the next 24 hours.

“A deep low over northwestern Chhattisgarh and adjacent to northeastern Madhya Pradesh and southeastern Uttar Pradesh weakened into a low and was centered at 05:30 IST today over the same region about 120 km west-north-west of Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), 150 km south-west of Churk (Uttar Pradesh), 170 km east-south-east of Satna and 120 km east of Umaria (Madhya Pradesh) It would continue to move west-northwest across northern Madhya Pradesh and weaken into a well-marked low pressure area over the next 24 hours,” IMD tweeted.

The IMD further said that precipitation in most places and heavy to very heavy precipitation in a few places are likely. The IMD also predicted extremely heavy falls in isolated locations in western Madhya Pradesh and adjacent eastern Madhya Pradesh today.

“Heavy to very heavy rains in a few places and extremely heavy rains in isolated places most likely in eastern Rajasthan; heavy to very heavy rains in isolated places in western Madhya Pradesh and heavy rains in isolated places in western Rajasthan and northern Gujarat region on August 22,” IMD said.

IMD in a statement said: “A squall wind speed reaching 30-40 gusting to 50 km/h is likely over northern Chhattisgarh and adjacent areas of southern Uttar Pradesh during the next 12 hours and strong wind speeds reaching 25-35 km/h gusting to 45 km/h are likely to prevail over northern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of southern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan over the next 24 hours.”
