The southwestern United States is still under threat from extreme heat this week as drought conditions worsen. It should become drier before the end of the summer.
High temperatures in the southern plains are expected to reach triple digits this afternoon. Some areas east of the caprock can see highs around 105°. Those who work outdoors should take extra precautions against heat. Staying hydrated and wearing sunscreen is essential if you’ll be outside for more than 10 minutes.
Current forecast models do not predict a heat outage over the next week. A small front on Sunday could provide some areas with much needed rain, but those chances will be isolated. Until these abnormally hot and dry conditions pass, expect afternoon high temperatures in the 90s and 100s.
Stay safe and have a great afternoon!
