Today will be a generally calm day, with temperatures warming to the mid 80s and winds remaining mostly light westerlies at 10-15 mph under clear skies. Over the weekend, temperatures will peak in triple digits with 102 degrees expected on Saturday and 100 on Sunday. The winds will become quite strong in gusts, which will cause a high risk of fire. Luckily, we’ve gotten the grass a little greener, so wildfire fuels will be a little less conducive, although hot, dry and windy conditions can certainly encourage fires to spread quickly over the weekend. . For all outdoor activities, watch out for sparks and also remember your heat safety precautions!
Another storm system will develop over the western United States early next week, and this will bring jet stream energy to our area by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Chances of showers and thunderstorms will potentially return, although it is still far too early to determine details of intensity and location.
