Thunderstorm, moderate showers forecast for parts of Vidarbha; IMD issues yellow warning

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a yellow weather warning predicting a thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rainfall for parts of Vidarbha region in Maharashtra over the next two days.

Several eastern districts of Vidarbha including Nagpur witnessed rain and hail during the day.

IMD Nagpur Regional Meteorological Center has issued a yellow warning for Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Gondia, Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts of Vidarbha till Thursday, an official said.

IMD warned of a thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain very likely to continue at a few places over Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia and thunderstorms and hail at a few places in Chandrapur districts , Gadchiroli and Yavatmal, he said.

Ballarpur in Chandrapur district recorded 90mm of rainfall, followed by Chamorshi to Gadchiroli with 66mm, Deoli to Wardha with 10.7mm and 0.5mm of rainfall in remote parts of Nagpur district, till 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the official said.

Various parts of Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Wardha received over 1cm of rain till midday, he added.

Speaking to PTI, Deputy Director General of Meteorology at IMD Nagpur, M. L. Sahu said the rainfall at Vidarbha was due to induced cyclonic circulation aloft over Haryana and North Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from this, IMD had also forecast hail in remote places of Nagpur and Wardha districts during the day, it was said.
