the Julius Kühn Institutea federal research institute in Germany, and open science publisher Frontiers announce their institutional partnership agreement.

The Institute informs and advises the federal government on all matters relating to cultivated plants and plant protection. It has always supported its researchers by making their studies widely available to the research community and the general public. Now, the agreement allows researchers from 17 Julius Kühn institutions to publish in any Frontiers journal at no direct cost to them while benefiting from a streamlined process.

Commenting on the agreement, Dr Anja Hühnlein, Deputy Director of the Information Center and Library at the Julius Kühn Institute, said: “As a publicly funded institution, we strive to make all our research of high quality accessible to all. We look forward to working with Frontiers to help us further improve our high rate of Open Access.

To date, Frontiers has signed six domestic publishing deals (withAustria,Luxemburg,Norway,Qatar,Swedenand theUK) and ten additional consortium contracts, including three with leading backers (Bill & Melinda Gates FoundationtheAustrian Science Fund [FWF]and theLuxembourg National Fund), providing seamless and cost-effective access to our services to more than 555 individual institutions.
