Moderate precipitation with the possibility of occasional intense periods in isolated places probably in cities today, according to IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that moderate rainfall is likely in Mumbai.

The IMD in its 24-hour forecast predicted moderate rainfall in cities and suburbs with the possibility of occasional intense periods in isolated locations.

IMD said on Tuesday that the island city, eastern and western suburbs recorded 4.41mm, 5.16mm and 5.51mm of rain, respectively, in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a high tide of 4.48 meters is expected at 12:16 p.m. in Mumbai today. Additionally, a low tide of 0.98 meters is likely to occur at 6:17 p.m. today.

When there is a high tide during the rainy season, it becomes difficult for the flooded waters to recede. The low tide helps the city’s floodwaters find an outlet to enter the seas.

IMD said on Sunday that parts of southern, western and northern India are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next three days as the southwest monsoon resumes.

He said increased rainfall activity with fairly widespread and isolated heavy to very heavy rains is very likely over Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next three days and will reduce in intensity and distribution thereafter.

Northern Marathawada, northern Madhya Maharashtra, northern Konkan, Gujarat region are likely to receive rainfall from September 7 to 9. Extremely strong isolated falls are also likely over northern Konkan on September 7 and 8, central Maharashtra and the Gujarat region on September 8, and Telangana on September 7.

After recording insufficient precipitation in August, IMD forecast above normal precipitation in September. The rainfall deficit until August 31 was 9%. The deficit until September 5 was nine percent.

When releasing his forecast for September, IMD chief executive Mrutunjay Mohapatra said on Wednesday that the deficit in August would likely be offset by excessive rainfall in the current month.
