IMD said on Sunday that the island city, eastern and western suburbs recorded 82mm, 47mm and 56mm of rain, respectively, in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, a high tide of 3.92 meters is expected at 3:15 p.m. in Mumbai. Additionally, a low tide of 0.73 meters is likely to occur at 9:16 p.m. today.
When there is a high tide during the rainy season, it becomes difficult for the flooded water to withdraw. The low tide helps the city’s floodwaters find an outlet to enter the seas.
On Saturday, IMD had said that Mumbai, the rest of Konkan and western Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy downpours from Sunday. “The area of ââlow pressure developed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a depression and move north-northwest in the coming days. It is expected to bring more intense showers over western Maharashtra, Konkan, including the Mumbai area from Sunday, âan IMD official told PTI.
IMD issued an “orange” alert for Raigad, Pune, Ratnagiri, Satara and Kolhapur while a yellow alert was issued for the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Wardha, Palghar and Sindhudurg.
An orange alert means that local authorities must remain prepared in the event of intensifying downpours. The yellow alert indicates less risk of heavy rain. The rest of Maharashtra is expected to receive light to moderate showers over the next 3-4 days.
There could be more rain on Monday in northern Maharashtra as well as parts of eastern Vidarbha and Marathwada, IMD said. However, the intensity of the showers will be higher in western Maharashtra and the Konkan region, the meteorological department said. Intensity would decrease on Tuesday and Wednesday, but some areas will continue to receive showers, according to forecasts.
