Kevin Smith teams up with Dark Horse Comics for Secret Stash Press publishing line

Kevin Smith is launching his own line of creator-owned comics, with Dark Horse Comics as the publisher. Titled Secret Stash Press, the publishing line is named after Smith’s comic book store in New Jersey. According to The Hollywood ReporterSmith will write each title, with the eight numbers Masquerade kicking off this fall. Next came an anthology series titled Quick stopswhich takes place in Smith’s View Askewniverse and features characters from Clerks, Mallrats and Jay and Bob strike back. Kevin Smith celebrated the news on Twitter, sharing the Secret Stash Press logo.

The filmmaker and comic book writer wrote on Twitter: “HEY KIDS! COMICS! @The_SecretStash doesn’t just sell comics anymore – now we DO COMIC BOOKS TOO! Excited to announce SECRET STASH PRESS – a new line of comics we’re launching exclusively with publishing legends @DarkHorseComics! 2 new titles in store this fall!”

“I’ve been a fan of Kevin’s movies for years. The thing is, we have a lot in common. We’ve both worked in our own comic book stores, worked in the movie business, but most of all, we have a love passionate about the medium of comics,” Dark Horse President and Founder Mike Richardson said in a statement. “It makes sense that we’re finally teaming up, and I’m extremely proud to announce his exciting new line of comics and graphic novels here at Dark Horse. Kevin has a brilliant and creative mind, and I can’t wait to see this that he has in store for all of us.”

“2022 marks the 25th anniversary of my comic book store, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. And after a quarter century of selling comics, Secret Stash is going to MAKE our own comics!” Smith said in a statement.

“Following the recipe written by Mike Richardson eons ago when he transformed his comic book store into a legendary comic book publisher, the Secret Stash is ready to take the next step in its evolution,” Smith added. “I’m thrilled to have Secret Stash Press become part of the Dark Horse multimedia empire and hope our books will attract new customers to comic book stores and delight regular readers around the world.”

Kevin Smith has written for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, as well as directed episodes of The Flash and super girl on The CW. He is the showrunner of Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
