Delhi weather update: light rain and thunderstorms during the day, IMD predicts

New Delhi: Delhiites woke up to a pleasant windy and cloudy morning today. The weather bureau predicted light rain and thunderstorms during the day.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Thursday’s minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average for the season.

“There will be mostly cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms. The day’s high temperature is expected to hover around 33 degrees Celsius,” an IMD official said.

The rains are likely to further improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) which according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) was in the moderate category with an index value measured at 134 at 8 morning hours today.

With Delhi’s air quality falling to “poor” levels on Wednesday, authorities in the National Capital Region were told to strictly enforce the measures as part of the first stage of the graduated response action plan ( GRAP).

The action plan includes criminal and legal proceedings against polluting industrial units.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
